Ikaika Kimura began his career in video back in 1993 were he learned a trade to non-linear edit video on one of Hawaii’s thirteen Avid systems in the state at the time. He learned to troubleshoot and maintain these systems as he produced backyard surf videos of himself along with friends. He learned the basics on a Avid Media Suite Pro cutting pilot reels for several well know videographers and stepped up to the Media Composer line while at Pacific Islander In Communications. Getting his feet wet in the industry took place as an assistant video editor at Pacific Islanders in Communications were he assistant edited three documentaries that aired on PBS nationwide through a federal grant.
In 1997, Kimura sold his car and purchased his own Avid Xpress Elite and started Danica Productions, LLC. He later upgraded to a Media Composer 9000XL (He bought the the system that edited Final Fantasy from Square USA, the Japanese Animation Movie, that was based here in Hawaii) in 2001 to pursue his career in post video production. Since then he has been proficient and effective editing on both Avid products and Apple’s Final Cut Studio.
In 1998, Ikaika Kimura was employed by Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc owned KITV as a cameraman for the Morning News with Kathy Muneno, Paul Udell, & Tiny Tadani. Kimura also provided Chyron Graphics for the night news, floor directed, & worked as a production assistant for on location remotes.
In 1999, Ikaika Kimura was the executive producer/creator for Hawaii’s highly rated cable series “Local Kine Grindz” where viewers were taken to over 600 restaurants in search of various global cuisines. Kimura was also the original editor for Tiny TV in 1999, a variety show, and co-creator of OverDrive Live in 2001, Hawaii’s only Music Video based series, which still currently air in Hawaii on OC16. In 2002, Kimura saw the demand for internet applications and returned to school at New Horizons of Hawaii for an intense one year web development series of courses, particularly streaming video, to distribute video on multiple mediums.
In 2004, Ikaika created his 5th show with Kevin Yen, Co-Executive Producer, & actor/model Kala'i Miller entitled, NRG Television. The same year, Kimura created Bid Now To Win, Hawaii's Online Auction Marketplace. Basically a combination of QVC meets eBay, local style! During those years, Ikaika also independently works with various companies developing web marketing solutions and network video production which have aired on all of Hawaii’s major networks like KHON, KITV, KGMB, KHNL, & KFVE.
In the Spring of 2006, Ikaika Kimura joined forces with Hawaii Pacific Entertainment, lead by Lincoln Jacobe, to over see and produce the companies multiple television series on OC16 such at Tech Box, The Joy of Crafting, Pacific Groove with Jasmine Trias, and KHON's Generation X & Y hosted by Johnny Bandack.
